Ryan Gosling reveals Eva Mendes called him about their daughters’ class as he filmed action scene

He may be one of the biggest names in Hollywood, but Ryan Gosling’s number one role is still that of father.

The 48-year-old was in the middle of filming an epic explosion scene for The Gray Man when his partner Eva Mendes, 48, called him about their daughters’ Zoom piano class.

‘That whole scene hinges on me handcuffed to this bench and we’re in Prague and there’s lots of explosions going up, off, and I was there with Eva and the kids, and they were in a hotel nearby, and I got a call in the middle of one of the scenes,’ he revealed on Good Morning America.

‘I kinda hid behind a bench and used my free hand, and it was Eva saying, “How long are these explosions gonna go on because the girls have a piano Zoom class.”‘

Ryan started dating Eva in September 2011 after working together on The Place Beyond The Pines. They share daughters Esmeralda Amada Gosling, seven, and Amada Lee Gosling, six.

Ryan talked about two of his upcoming films while on GMA, his Netflix film The Gray Man and his highly-anticipated new Barbie project which sees him star opposite Margot Robbie as Ken.

But worlds collide in The Gray Man, where Chris Evans calls Ryan’s character Court Gentry a ‘Ken doll.’

Ryan admitted that line was added to the script after he was cast in the Barbie flick.

‘It was after I was cast. Yeah, they could just feel it, I guess. I was the last to recognize the Ken in me, but I see it clearly now,’ Ryan said jokingly.

Ryan joked ‘its a lot’ to play Ken.

‘I can’t even get into it really, we don’t have the time,’ Ryan joked when asked about his new role. ‘It’s a lot to be Ken,’ he added.

Last month, Eva said her partner had sparked a ‘Kenassiance.’

‘It’s happening. It’s happening now. I see all my Kens. There’s Kens in this room,’ Ryan said.

The much-anticipated romantic comedy, based on the eponymous Mattel doll line, stars Robbie as Barbie and Gosling as her longtime love interest Ken.

Robbie has long been attached to play Barbie on the big screen and promised that the movie will be very different to what people are expecting.

She previously told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is’, but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted.”

The Neighbours star is hoping to provoke ‘thoughtful conversation’ with the film.

Robbie said: ‘Now, can we truly honour the IP and the fan base and also surprise people? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we’re really firing on all cylinders.’

A synopsis on IMDB of the upcoming film reads: ‘A doll living in ‘Barbieland’ is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world. A Live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys.’

The film is being touted as ‘a fish-out-of-water story about a doll who is ousted from toy society for not being perfect enough’, according to a report by Vulture.

She then comes to the realization that what’s on the inside is more important than her appearance.
